Ethel M. Krieg

Ethel Mae Krieg. 89, of the Hancock County Nursing Home in Carthage, Illinois, formerly of Durham, Illinois passed away Friday, February 16, 2007 at 1:30 P.M. at the Memorial Hospital in Carthage.

She was born January 25, 1918 in Durham Township, the daughter of Charles and Alma Carter Krieg.

She lived all of her life near Durham until moving to the nursing home. She loved her family and caring for others. She cared for her mother at home until her death in 1985 at the age of 99. Ethel raised cattle, hogs and chickens, milked cows, churned butter, raised a huge garden and canned. She enjoyed mushrooming, fishing and making candy. She was a cook at the Durham Grade School for many years and was a member of the Durham United Methodist Church. The love of her life was her Lord.

She is survived by two nieces, Jan McAllister of Smyrna, Tennessee and Sarah Smith of Montrose, Iowa, one great-niece, Angie Mackie, one great-great-niece, Tammie, one great-great nephew, Jacob, all of Lavergne, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Helen Krieg.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Durham Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home, Tuesday, from noon until time of services. A memorial fund has been established. Send a condolence here.
