Chris I. Balmer

Mr. Chris I. Balmer, 88, of LaHarpe, Illinois passed away Friday, January 5, 2007 at 5:30 A.M. at the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Illinois.

He was born December 27, 1918, near Aledo, Illinois, the son of Carl and Dora Crawford Balmer. On November 18, 1938 he married Ada Sturgeon in Aledo. She preceded him in death on December 17, 1999.

He was a 1937 graduate of the Aledo High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army Infantry from 1943 - 1946 in the European Theater. He worked at WIU on the carpentry staff, retiring in 1980. He lived in Roseville, IL from 1947 until moving to Macomb in 1994 where he lived until moving to LaHarpe in 2005. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW and The LaHarpe Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by one son, Rick (Dianne) Balmer of LaHarpe, one granddaughter, Jenni (Eric) Little and one great-grandson, Logan Little all of LaHarpe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one sister, Shirley Holeman and his parents.

Graveside services with Military Rites and Masonic Rites will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at the Roseville Cemetery with Rev. Darren Beachy officiating. A memorial fund has been established for the Wesley United Methodist Church in Macomb and the LaHarpe-Davier Health Care Center. Banks & Beals Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
